When we think about natural body detox, the first thing that crosses our mind is to have a strict diet and compulsory fasting. However, whether or not these are helpful or not, our body has its detoxification system that is more effective than any of these measures. However, constant exposure to pollutants, antibiotics, and pesticides, in addition to mental and physical stress, can prove to be overwhelming. In such a case, we need to give your detoxification process a little push.

Ways of detoxifying your body naturally

Our body is equipped with organs like kidneys, liver, lungs, skin, and other organs that enable the body to detoxify itself naturally. To flush out toxins out of the body, we need to keep these organs healthy. However, due to stress and erratic lifestyle, we suppress our immune system, and our organs are not able to function as effectively we want them to.

When our immune system is depressed, our body starts to accumulate toxins due to the slowdown of the detoxification process. Therefore, it is crucial that for boosting natural detoxification of the body our immune system should be first of all bolstered.

Some of the tips for naturally detoxifying your body

  1. Limit intake of alcohol: Our liver metabolizes ninety percent of the alcohol we consume. The enzymes in our liver break down alcohol to acetaldehyde, which is a carcinogenic chemical. The liver recognizes acetaldehyde harmful for the body and converts it into a harmless substance called acetate, which is later flushed out of the body. Some studies substantiate that low-to-moderate consumption of alcohol is beneficial for heart health, whereas heavy drinking leads to a plethora of health problems. Excessive drinking results in the fat build-up, inflammation, scarring of the liver. It will eventually result in its damage. When a liver is damaged, it cannot function properly and will fail in filtering toxins out of your body. Thus, abstaining from consuming alcohol is one of the best ways of keeping your liver healthy. Doctors recommend one drink per day for women and two for men.
  2. Get enough sleep: Ensure that you get enough sleep at night because it helps in natural detoxification of the body. Sleep enables your brain to reorganize and refresh itself, as well as flush out toxins that have accumulated throughout the day. Due to sleep deprivation, the body does not get time to perform functions that are essential for detoxification, which leads to the accumulation of toxins. Inadequate sleep has been linked to many other problems like stress, anxiety, high blood pressure, cardiac ailments, obesity, and many others. One should sleep for at least seven to nine hours for the proper functioning of the body.
  3. Drink sufficient water: Water not only quenches our thirst but does much more than that. It regulates body temperature, lubricates the joints, improves digestion, aids nutrient absorption, and detoxifies the body by removing toxins. Our body breaks nutrients for releasing energy that will assist in the optimum functioning of the body. However, these processes release wastes in our blood in the form of carbon dioxide and urea. Water transports these waste products out of the body and ultimately flush them through urination, sweating, or breathing. Therefore, remaining hydrated is of utmost importance for the natural detoxification of the body.
  4. Reduce the intake of sugar and processed food: Sugar and processed foods are the reason behind many of our ailments today. High consumption of sugar and processed food causes many diseases like heart diseases, cancer, and diabetes. These diseases render the organs like kidneys and liver ineffective to flush toxins out of the body. Therefore, you should replace processed foods and artificial sugar with natural sugar, fruits, and vegetables.
  5. Consume foods rich in antioxidant: Antioxidant prevents the damage of cells caused by molecules and free radicals. The overproduction of these radicals is called oxidative stress. These radicals are naturally produced in the body during digestion. However, abuse of alcohol, excessive smoking, and exposure to pollutants results in the production of excessive radicals. However, eating food that is rich in antioxidants assists in fighting oxidative stress. It is caused by free radicals and other toxins in the body.
  6. Include foods rich in probiotics: It is essential for detoxification that you have a healthy gut. Our intestine consists of detoxification and excretion system that protects our gut by flushing out harmful toxins from the body. Probiotics are essential because they feed good bacteria present in our gut that produces short-chain fatty acid that is helpful for our health. The good bacteria in our body may get unbalanced due to the use of antibiotics and poor diet. This imbalance can weaken the immune and detoxification system making them incapable of eliminating toxins from our bodies.
  7. Reduce intake of salt: Consuming too much salt may lead to fluid retention in the body. The build of excess fluid can be eliminated by consuming more water. The reason being when we intake too much salt and drink less water, our body releases an antidiuretic hormone that prevents us from urinating. This impacts the process of detoxification. When we consume adequate water, the secretion of the antidiuretic hormone reduces, which enables us to detoxify our body through urination. Therefore, we should try to reduce our consumption of salt so that there is no build-up of excess fluid in our body.
  8. Exercise: Exercising is one of the best ways to facilitate the detoxification of our body. Regular exercise significantly reduces many conditions and diseases such as diabetes, cancer, and also helps in normalizing blood pressure. It also helps in lowering the risk of inflammation. Inflammations are necessary for fighting off infections in our body, too much of infection may lead to the weakening of the immune system. Regular exercise boosts the detoxification system and protects us against many diseases.

While many foods assist in detoxification of the body, however, our body is capable enough to detoxify itself. However, you could uplift your detoxification system by maintaining a healthy lifestyle and including foods in your diet that will elevate your immune system.
